ST. CLOUD, Minn – The Minnesota State Mavericks (19-2, 13-1 NSIC) secured a doubleheader sweep over the St. Cloud State Huskies (11-13, 7-7 NSIC) on Saturday, winning 8-1 and 6-4 in extra innings.

Game 1 – MSU 8 SCSU 1 (7 innings)

Minnesota State jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, capitalizing on three consecutive walks before Louis Magers delivered a two-run single to right field. A bases-loaded walk added another run, giving the Mavericks a 3-0 advantage. St. Cloud State threatened in the bottom half with a leadoff single and a stolen base, but Minnesota State's pitching held firm to keep the Huskies off the board.

The Mavericks extended their lead in the third when Matthew Fleischhacker homered to left center, making it 4-0. St. Cloud State responded with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

Minnesota State broke the game open in the sixth, scoring four runs on a pair of RBI hits and a bases-loaded walk, stretching their lead to 8-1. The Huskies had a late opportunity in the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts ended their threat as Minnesota State secured the win.

Game 2 – MSU 6 SCSU 4 (11 innings)

Minnesota State jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on an error in the second inning to score two unearned runs. A sacrifice fly by Brandon Vlcko and an RBI single by Logan Miller gave the Mavericks a 2-0 advantage. They extended their lead to 3-0 in the third after a sacrifice fly from Magers.

St. Cloud State responded in the fifth with a solo home run, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Mavericks tacked on an insurance run in the seventh thanks to a wild pitch, but the Huskies mounted a comeback in the bottom of the inning.

Both teams remained scoreless through extra innings until the 11th, when Minnesota State broke through with a clutch RBI single by Miller and an additional run on a base hit by Jake Berkland, taking a 6-4 lead. The Huskies now have their final chance to respond in the bottom of the 11th.

"Two well played games today. Culley and Day supplied strong pitching going deep into each game. Offensively we situationally hit well, Logan Milley stood out with multiple quality at bat." said head coach Matt Magers.

Minnesota State returns to action Fridayfor another doubleheader against St. Cloud State, starting at 1:00 p.m. CT.
