  • Shantanu Ganguly “I have had the opportunity to work closely with Alicia in her role as the Global Patient Advocacy to Outcomes Lead for GSK Hematology. The sheer diversity of Alicia’s experience provides tremendous credibility to her work as a patient advocate builder. Her deep patient insights are highly valued by the leadership and are always seen as crucial inputs for cross-functional stakeholders. Her conviction to bring the patient voice at the center of all we do is infectious and her ‘leadership with a human touch’ inspires all who work with her. Alicia is down-to-earth and a smart strategic thinker, which explains the strong relationships she has forged over the years across patients, doctors and various organizations in the biopharma industry. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Alicia.”
  • Shawn L. Goodman “It has been a great pleasure of mine to work with Alicia over the course of several years at Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company, (now Takeda Oncology). She’s led teams of individuals to conceptualize, launch and strategically evolve multiple awareness initiatives for Takeda in combination with the MMRF and other partnering advocacy groups. Most of the programs we created together have successfully spanned across the globe touching individuals in many cultures and geographies. Alicia is an expert in the field of myeloma and is highly respected throughout the community – she is truly a partner of choice across industry and academia. ”

  • Stephanie M. Clark, MS What did I learn from serving as a poll worker for election duty on May 14th? 1. Our democracy needs its citizens to contribute by working our elections to ensure free and fair elections. 2. My poll worker colleagues and I happily greeted and bid goodbye to everyone, regardless of whether they were a Republican, Democrat, or Non-Partisan, because we are all Americans. 3. In Nebraska, your identification is checked twice: once when you enter the polling area and again at the table. Don't put that ID away yet! 4. The poll workers did not decide on the ID law, so don't take it out on the poll workers if you disagree with it. 5. You cannot wear partisan buttons, signs, t-shirts etc. into the polling place. Please leave these at home. 6. We had around 250 citizens vote at our polling location yesterday (during the hours of 7 AM to 8 PM), and our location had more traffic than most. 7. Most people thanked us for serving election duty. It was a nice surprise. 8. If you did not receive a card in the mail confirming your polling place, check it before you go to vote. For some, polling locations for Omaha have changed, regardless of whether you voted at the same location for several years. Double-check so as not to waste your time. 9. If your son or daughter no longer lives with you but is listed on our roster, he/she/they will need to change their address with the election office. 10. If you requested an absentee ballot but show up at the polling place, you will be asked to use a provisional ballot. It's best to use the absentee ballot you were originally sent and drop it at an official election box location. We cannot take absentee ballots at the polling site. Make sure to vote! 10
  • Eric Racine, PharmD, MBA The intersection of advocacy, philanthropy, and business creates powerful opportunities to accelerate innovation for patients. Not many have a better insight into this space than David Panzirer, a Trustee at The Helmsley Charitable Trust and one of the most significant leaders in the field of venture philanthropy. In a new episode of Patient Advocacy Voices, my co-host Andrew Vilcinskas – a type 1 diabetes (T1D) patient himself – and I had a great conversation with David to get an understanding of his unique approach. David and his team continuously assess the healthcare ecosystem to develop a deep understanding that guides their investment decisions. He takes a portfolio approach to healthcare investments and is driven by a singular focus – improving the lives of people living with T1D.This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in getting the most return from their philanthropic investments by applying a business mindset.➡️Check out the latest episode and let me know how you prioritize to deliver impact for patients. https://lnkd.in/esv2kjNf David Panzirer Andrew Vilcinskas Angie Bricco Olivier Bogillot Nadia Fontaine Mattias Wieloch#Healthcare #PatientAdvocacy #Diabetes #T1D 66 4 Comments

  • Tim Crum PharmD, BCGP Not an uncommon experience with #insurance and #priorauthorization. Think about the steps to a #specialty mail order medication:Day 1:1. Doctor writes prescription and sends to patient's preferred pharmacy.2. The insurance rejects the claim and directs the patient to a "specialty" pharmacy.Day 2-3:3. Patient tries to get prescription transferred (if electronic or verbal) to specialty pharmacy or mails hardcopy. 3b. Patient chooses instead to call doctor and ask for a new prescription to be sent to the specialty pharmacy.Day 3-5:4. Doctor sends prescription #2 to the specialty pharmacy.5. Prescription rejects for prior authorization. (It's now at the "right" pharmacy, but the formulary requires a review by the insurance).6. The pharmacy contacts doctor and informs patient.Day 5-8:7. After much back and forth, PA forms, missing information, clarifications, follow up calls by the patient to the doctor and insurance, by the doctor to the insurance, and by the patient to the pharmacy, an approval is granted.8. Because the member has a plan with a deductible that is not met, their cost-share for the approved medication is $1000+.Day 9-10: 9. Patient receives medication in the mail.10 days is being generous. Many patients get lost in the shuffle, may wait until their next doctor appt, or never get the prescription at all. Little did the patient know they could have just paid $80 cash at their original pharmacy without a prior authorization. The patient would have received the medication on Day 1 at their preferred pharmacy at a fraction of the cost. The numbers used are for representative purposes only and may sound like an egregious variance, but it exists. Seeing many examples throughout my career serve as motivation to do something about it.#getgreenback #greenbackhealth #pricemymeds 9 3 Comments

  • Diakonos Oncology Diakonos Oncologyannounces that theU.S. FDAhas granted Fast Track designation for the company’sunique dendritic cell vaccine (DCV) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. In addition, we are proud to announce that wehave named to our Scientific Advisory Board,Daniel D. Von Hoff, M.D., Distinguished Professor at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) in Phoenix, AZ, and City of Hope, and an experienced investigator against pancreatic cancer.“This second FDA Fast Track designation of our autologous dendritic cell vaccines for pancreatic cancer is another acknowledgement of the incredible potential of this innovative immunotherapy for treating the most deadly cancers,” saidMike Wicks,Diakonos CEO. “We are thrilled to have Dr. Von Hoff join us as an advisor as we pursue clinical development of our vaccine in this deadly disease,” added Mr. Wicks. “The first designation was for our lead vaccine for glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) which successfully completed dosing for the Phase 1 trial and has significantly improved 12 month survival in those patients to well over what would be expected with the standard of care.” “Diakonos's unique dendritic cell vaccine has shown encouraging results in treating glioblastoma, a terrible disease with few effective treatments. Pancreatic cancer patients also need additional treatment options," said Dr. Von Hoff. "I look forward to working with Diakonos to help develop effective treatments for patients with pancreatic cancer with the same targeted technology."Diakonos’ dendritic cell vaccines aremade with a patient’s dendritic cells and a sample of their tumor. These highly differentiated double-loaded dendritic cell vaccines activaterobust cytotoxic TH1 cell signaling pathways that initiate a natural immune response to target and eliminate cancer cells. This is achieved without any genetic modification of the patient’s immune cells, which greatly simplifies the manufacturing process and significantly reduces costs when compared to leading cell therapy approaches.Diakonos Oncology is dedicated to revolutionizing cancer immunotherapy and focusing on difficult-to-treat indications, including glioblastoma and PDAC.
